How I Afford Shakeology On My Teacher Salary

Everyone I talk to always is AMAZED that I pay for Shakeology on a teacher salary. It is public knowledge as to what my salary is BEFORE all of the deductions (taxes, insurance, dues, etc), but for those of you who don't know, I'm a 6th year teacher with a master's degree and I take home $999.87 every two weeks.

Some may say that doesn't really fit in my budget to pay $99 for my shakes and a $15 coaching fee, BUT here is how I look at it:

  • I USED to pay a little over $5 for a large coffee and a bagel most mornings at a local convince store for my breakfast. If I didn't opt for the bagel and coffee, I was opting for multiple cups of coffee loaded down with creamer and sugar... guilty!!!
  • I USED to pay $26.00 total for 2 different types of Gummy Vitamins that were DELICIOUS, but that only lasted me a little under two months.
  • I USED to pay $7.00 for a fish oil pill (which lasted about 3ish months) and about $18 a month for coenzyme Q10 pills for my blood pressure.
  • I USED to pay $150.00 for groceries a week that was mostly healthy food that most of it would go to waste and end up in a dumpster somewhere. I have always ate pretty healthy, but not having a plan really killed my grocery bill.

**NOW, I pay $99 a month for my shakes and $15 a month for a coaching fee. I NOW pay around $75 for groceries that I consume if not all, 95% of them. Guilty again, but on occasion I'll forget my meals or go out to eat on a whim and not all of my food gets ate.

Let's break this down, shall we.

Before: Let's say I only got my bagel and coffee 3 times a week (which it was usually more)-- that cost me easily $60 a month.

$99.00 - $60.00 = $39.00

Cutting out my coffee and bagel costs, my shakes are already down to $39 dollars a month and a $15 monthly coaching fee.

Now that my vitamins are in my shakes plus extra minerals I am no longer in need of my gummy vitamins or my fish oil pills.

$39.00 - ($26.00/2months supply) - ($7.00/3months supply) -($18.00) = $5.66 and a $15 coaching fee.

Now I'm down to only paying $5.66 and a $15 coaching fee a month. Where do I make that up? My meal plans. Since I am no longer just impulse purchasing, I am making a meal plan. Typically, my groceries are about $75-$100 a week. I do purchase all of my groceries at either Giant Eagle or Walmart. If I took the time, I could go to a place like Aldi's and pay even less for these, but I go for the simpleness. Right there I'm easily saving an extra $50 a month.

Once I subtract my grocery difference, I am ACTUALLY saving money in the long run! Who would have guessed.

I COMPLETELY get the fact that you don't want to dish out a large sum of money all at once for Shakeology. Trust me, my bank account felt the impact of my first bag of Shakeology a lot more than my daily coffee and bagel, but my body if feeling the impacts of my shakes over my bad habits.
