Clean, Sloppy Joes

I love a good sloppy joe with my mac and cheese just like every other American. The can sloppy joes just make me sick now. After hours of searching online, I found the perfect, CLEAN, sloppy joe mixture.

Ingredients:
  • EVOO
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup organic ketchup *no sugar*
  • 1/4 cup truvia brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon powdered mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Whole wheat hamburger buns or pitas
Directions
Set a large pan over medium-low heat. Add a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil, and saute the garlic until they are light brown. Add ground beef, increase heat to medium/medium high, and cook until the meat is no longer pink. Make sure you break apart the ground beef now so there won't be chunks later.
While meat is browning, make the sauce mixture. In a medium bowl, mix the can of tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add black pepper to your liking.
Once the meat is fully cooked, add the sauce mixture and simmer for a few minutes until most of the moisture is gone and the sauce is warm.

Add the mixture to the bun or pita and enjoy! I added some cheese and a dill pickle to mine. :) DELICIOUS!
